Porto Moniz (the western part
is not visible, but lies outside the image to the left). During 2003
and 2004 there was much contruction work in this little village, which
was completed only two days before this photo. Even though the shore
parade were much nicer before, the opportunity for productive sea
watching have not change. Photo: Niklas

Seawatching from Calahau in
the western part. Seawatching from the balcony (left), all balconies
at Calahau facing the sea, and three (Swedish and Finnish) seawatchers
on Calhau's terrace (right). Photos: Niklas

View towards northeast from
the terrace at Calhau in the western part. From here you will see
the passing seabirds over longer periods and also discover them much
earlier, compared to sea watching from the eastern part. If staying
overnight, Calahau is indeed the perfect place to stay at. Photo:

Seawatching from the eastern
part. Productive, but the scanning angle and distance to the passing
seabirds not as good as from the places in the western part (e.g.
Calhau). Photos: Håkan

View from the balcony of Hotel Salgueiro
towards northeast. The old shore parade to the right was a good place
for seawatching. Photo: Niklas

Porto Moniz and Mole island in late
60's. I found this old photo in Porto Moniz 2004, which I then
digitalized, but the original photographer is unknown. |
